259f7d5e2b Merge tag 'thermal-6.9-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm
Pull thermal control updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"These mostly change the thermal core in a few ways allowing thermal
drivers to be simplified, in particular in their removal and failing
probe handling parts that are notoriously prone to errors, and
propagate the changes to several drivers.

Apart from that, support for a new platform is added (Intel Lunar
Lake-M), some bugs are fixed and some code is cleaned up, as usual.

  Specifics:

   - Store zone trips table and zone operations directly in struct
     thermal_zone_device (Rafael Wysocki)

   - Fix up flex array initialization during thermal zone device
     registration (Nathan Chancellor)

   - Rework writable trip points handling in the thermal core and
     several drivers (Rafael Wysocki)

   - Thermal core code cleanups (Dan Carpenter, Flavio Suligoi)

   - Use thermal zone accessor functions in the int340x Intel thermal
     driver (Rafael Wysocki)

   - Add Lunar Lake-M PCI ID to the int340x Intel thermal driver
     (Srinivas Pandruvada)

   - Minor fixes for thermal governors (Rafael Wysocki, Di Shen)

   - Trip point handling fixes for the iwlwifi wireless driver (Rafael
     Wysocki)

   - Code cleanups (Rafael J. Wysocki, AngeloGioacchino Del Regno)"

a85739c8c6 thermal: Get rid of CONFIG_THERMAL_WRITABLE_TRIPS
The only difference made by CONFIG_THERMAL_WRITABLE_TRIPS is whether or
not the writable trips mask passed during thermal zone registration
will take any effect, but whoever passes a non-zero writable trips mask
to thermal_zone_device_register_with_trips() can be forgiven thinking
that it will always work.

Moreover, some thermal drivers expect user space to set trip temperature
values, so they select CONFIG_THERMAL_WRITABLE_TRIPS, possibly overriding
a manual choice to unset it and going against the design purportedly
allowing system integrators to decide on the writability of trip points
for the given kernel build. It is also set in one platform's defconfig.

Forthermore, CONFIG_THERMAL_WRITABLE_TRIPS only affects trip temperature,
because trip hysteresis is writable as long as the thermal zone provides
a callback to update it, regardless of the CONFIG_THERMAL_WRITABLE_TRIPS
value.

The above means that the symbol in question is used inconsistently and
its purpose is at least moot, so remove it and always take the writable
trip mask passed to thermal_zone_device_register_with_trips() into
account.

2b0a5a8a39 ARM: imx_v6_v7_defconfig: Restore CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE
Since commit bfac19e239 ("fbdev: mx3fb: Remove the driver") backlight
is no longer functional.

The fbdev mx3fb driver used to automatically select
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE.

Now that the mx3fb driver has been removed, enable the
CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE option so that backlight can still work
by default.

Tested on a imx6dl-sabresd board.

1f2190d6b7 arch/*/configs/*defconfig: Replace AUTOFS4_FS by AUTOFS_FS
Commit a2225d931f ("autofs: remove left-over autofs4 stubs")
promised the removal of the fs/autofs/Kconfig fragment for AUTOFS4_FS
within a couple of releases, but five years later this still has not
happened yet, and AUTOFS4_FS is still enabled in 63 defconfigs.

Get rid of it mechanically:

   git grep -l CONFIG_AUTOFS4_FS -- '*defconfig' |
       xargs sed -i 's/AUTOFS4_FS/AUTOFS_FS/'

Also just remove the AUTOFS4_FS config option stub. Anybody who hasn't
regenerated their config file in the last five years will need to just
get the new name right when they do.

2b4e22a2b9 ARM: imx_v6_v7_defconfig: Remove firmware loader helper
Testing on a imx6dl board with a QCA9377 SDIO Wifi chip shows that the
QCA9377 firmware takes more than three minutes to start getting loaded,
which is a very inconvenient behavior.

CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER and CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER_FALLBACK
were selected by commit 30fdd51be1 ("ARM: imx_v6_v7_defconfig:
add CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER")

By removing the CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER and
CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER_FALLBACK options the QCA9377 firmware is
loaded around 10 seconds after boot, which is the expected behavior.

The motivation for commit 30fdd51be1 ("ARM: imx_v6_v7_defconfig:
add CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER") was related to loading the SDMA
firmware, and at the time of that commit, the SDMA driver was loaded
as built-in.

Now that the SDMA driver is selected as a kernel module, its firmware can
be successfully loaded as well without the need of
CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER and CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER_FALLBACK.

Remove the selection of these two options.

Also, successfully tested the loading of the VPU firmware without
these options.

23baf831a3 mm, treewide: redefine MAX_ORDER sanely

This definition is counter-intuitive and lead to number of bugs all over

Change the definition of MAX_ORDER to be inclusive: the range of orders
user can ask from buddy allocator is 0..MAX_ORDER now.

86d5b27b37 ARM: imx_v6_v7_defconfig: Fix unintentional disablement of PCI
Since commit 75c2f26da0 ("PCI: imx6: Add i.MX PCIe EP mode support")
the i.MX6 PCI driver is no longer selected by default. The
existing PCI_IMX6 was made a hidden option, selected by new options
PCI_IMX6_HOST (for the existing support) and PCI_IMX6_EP (for the
endpoint mode), but there has been no corresponding update to
imx_v6_v7_defconfig so the PCI_IMX6 ends up getting disabled.
Switch imx_v6_v7_defconfig to PCI_IMX6_HOST to preserve the existing
functionality.

This is based on the same fix done in commit 0cd5780eb6 ("arm64:

2002f39687 ARM: refresh defconfig files
A lot of Kconfig options have changed over the years, and we tend
to not do a blind 'make defconfig' to refresh the files, to ensure
we catch options that should not have gone away.

I used some a bit of scripting to only rework the bits where an
option moved around in any of the defconfig files, without also
dropping any of the other lines, to make it clearer which options
we no longer have.
