The remaining utils display needs from i915_utils.h are primarily
MISSING_CASE() and fetch_and_zero(), with a couple of
i915_inject_probe_failure() uses.
To avoid excessive churn, add duplicates of MISSING_CASE() and
fetch_and_zero() to intel_display_utils.h, and switch display to use the
display utils.
As long as there are display files that include i915_drv.h, which
includes i915_utils.h, we'll need #ifndef guards for MISSING_CASE() and
fetch_and_zero() in both utils headers. We can remove them once display
no longer depends on i915_drv.h.
A couple of files in display still need i915_utils.h for
i915_inject_probe_failure(). Annotate this. They will be handled
separately.

We started seeing "[drm] *ERROR* Timed out waiting PSR idle state" after
taking optimized guardband into use. These are seen because VSC SDPs are
sent on same line as AS SDPs when AS SDP is enabled. AS SDP is sent on line
configured in EMP_AS_SDP_TL register. We are configuring
crtc_state->vrr.vsync_start into that register.
Fix this by ensuring AS SDP is sent on line which is within
guardband. From the bspec:

The intel_crtc_state::fec_enable check in intel_dp_needs_8b10b_fec() is
redundant drop it: originally it ensured that the FEC enabled state for
a CRTC other than the CRTC intel_dp_needs_8b10b_fec() called for is
preserved, even if DSC is not enabled for the latter CRTC. The way FEC
gets enabled for all the CRTCs on an 8b10b MST link is changed by
commit 7c027070e9 ("drm/i915/dp_mst: Track DSC enabled status on the
MST link") and
commit 470b84af45 ("drm/i915/dp_mst: Recompute all MST link CRTCs if
DSC gets enabled on the link")
depending on intel_dsc_enabled_on_link() in intel_dp_needs_8b10b_fec()
instead of the above fec_enable check. Drop the check.

Add a helper to compute vblank time needed for transmitting specific
DisplayPort SDPs like PPS, GAMUT_METADATA, and VSC_EXT. Latency is
based on line count per packet type.
This will be used to ensure adequate guardband when features like DSC/HDR
are enabled.

Prevent enabling panel replay if the sink doesn't support this due to
DSC being enabled.
Panel replay has two modes, updating full frames or only selected
regions of the frame. If the sink doesn't support Panel Replay in full
frame update mode with DSC prevent Panel Replay completely if DSC is
enabled. If the sink doesn't support Panel Replay only in the selective
update mode while DSC is enabled, it will still support Panel Replay in
the full frame update mode, so only prevent selective updates in this
case.

Track whether DSC is enabled on any CRTC on a link. On DP-SST (and DSI)
this will always match the CRTC's DSC state, those links having only a
single stream (aka CRTC). For instance, on DP-MST if DSC is enabled for
CRTC#0, but disabled for CRTC#1, the DSC/FEC state for these CRTCs will
be as follows:
CRTC#0:
- compression_enable = true
- compression_enabled_on_link = true
- fec_enable = true for 8b10b, false for 128b132b
CRTC#1:
- compression_enable = false
- compression_enabled_on_link = true
- fec_enable = true for 8b10b, false for 128b132b
This patch only sets compression_enabled_on_link for CRTC#0 above and
enables FEC on CRTC#0 if DSC was enabled on any other CRTC on the 8b10b
MST link. A follow-up change will make sure that the state of all the
CRTCs (CRTC#1 above) on an MST link is recomputed if DSC gets enabled on
any CRTC, setting compression_enabled_on_link and fec_enable for these.

Export the helper function to determine if FEC is required on a non-UHBR
(8b10b) SST or MST link. A follow up change will take this into use for
MST as well.
While at it determine the output type from the CRTC state, which allows
dropping the intel_dp argument. Also make the function return the
required FEC state, instead of setting this in the CRTC state, which
allows only querying this requirement, without changing the state.
Also rename the function to intel_dp_needs_8b10b_fec(), to clarify that
the function determines if FEC is required on an 8b10b link (on 128b132b
links FEC is always enabled by the HW implicitly, so the function will
return false for that case).

Atm, in the DP SST case the FEC state is computed before
intel_crtc_state::port_clock is initialized, hence intel_dp_is_uhbr()
will always return false and the FEC state will be always computed
assuming a non-UHBR link.
This happens to work, since the FEC state is recomputed later in
intel_dp_mtp_tu_compute_config(), where port_clock will be set already,
so intel_crtc_state::fec_enable will be reset as expected for UHBR. This
also depends on link rates being tried in an increasing order (i.e. from
non-UHBR -> UHBR link rates) in dsc_compute_link_config(), thus
intel_crtc_state::fec_enable being set for the non-UHBR rates and
getting reset for the first UHBR rate as expected.
A follow-up change will reuse intel_dp_fec_compute_config() for the DP
MST state computation, prepare for that here, making sure that the
function determines the correct intel_crtc_state::fec_enable=false state
for UHBR link rates based on the above.
The DP SST and MST state computation should be further unified to avoid
computing/setting the intel_crtc_state::fec_enable state multiple times,
but that's left for a follow-up change. For now add only code comments
about this.

Add a helper to enable the DSC compression configuration for a CRTC.
Follow-up changes will introduce tracking for the same DSC state on the
whole link, which will need to be set whenever DSC is enabled for the
CRTC. Also, according to the above, when querying the DSC state on the
link, both the CRTC's and the link's DSC state must be considered.
Setting the DSC configuration for a CRTC and querying the DSC
configuration for the link (added by follow-up changes) is better done
via helper functions based on the above, prepare for that here.

Introduce intel_dp_compute_config_late() to handle late-stage
configuration checks for DP/eDP features. For now, it paves path for
psr_compute_config_late() to handle psr parameters that need to be
computed late.
Move the handling of psr_flag for Wa_18037818876 and setting of non-psr
pipes to intel_psr_compute_config_late() as these are the last things
to be configured for PSR features.

Handle the DSC pixel throughput quirk, limiting the compressed link-bpp
value for Synaptics Panamera branch devices, working around a
blank/unstable output issue observed on docking stations containing
these branch devices, when using a mode with a high pixel clock and a
high compressed link-bpp value.
For now use the same mode clock limit for RGB/YUV444 and YUV422/420
output modes. This may result in limiting the link-bpp value for a
YUV422/420 output mode already at a lower than required mode clock.

Use the DSC sink device's actual per-slice peak throughput to calculate
the minimum number of required DSC slices, falling back to the
hard-coded throughput values (as suggested by the DP Standard) if the
device's reported throughput value is 0.
For now use the minimum of the two throughput values, which is ok,
potentially resulting in a higher than required minimum slice count.
This doesn't change the current way of using the same minimum throughput
value regardless of the RGB/YUV output format used.
While at it add a TODO comment for MST tiled displays to calculate the
slice count for these based on the total pixel rate of all the tiles.

higher link rate. The Link rates that need to be overridden are

Update intel_dp_compute_config_limits() to use a minimum of
30 bits per pixel when the connector is in HDR mode
(specifically, when EOTF is SMPTE ST2084), aligning with HDR
display requirements.
To support this, the function now takes a drm_connector_state
instead of an intel_connector, and the required updates are
made in all call sites, including MST handling.
This ensures sufficient bitdepth for HDR content to avoid
banding.
If the required bandwidth for 30 bpp cannot be supported,
the driver will either fall back to DSC or reject the mode
during atomic check if DSC is not supported.

The intel_dp_in_hdr_mode() helper was previously defined in
intel_dp_aux_backlight.c but is generally useful beyond that
context. Move the function to intel_dp.c and declare it in
intel_dp.h to make it accessible to other DP-related code
paths that need to check HDR metadata state.
This is a pure refactor with no functional change and
prepares for a follow-up patch that uses this helper.

On g4x we currently use the 96MHz non-SSC refclk, which can't actually
generate an exact 2.7 Gbps link rate. In practice we end up with 2.688
Gbps which seems to be close enough to actually work, but link training
is currently failing due to miscalculating the DP_LINK_BW value (we
calcualte it directly from port_clock which reflects the actual PLL
outpout frequency).
Ideas how to fix this:
- nudge port_clock back up to 270000 during PLL computation/readout
- track port_clock and the nominal link rate separately so they might
differ a bit
- switch to the 100MHz refclk, but that one should be SSC so perhaps
not something we want
While we ponder about a better solution apply some band aid to the
immediate issue of miscalculated DP_LINK_BW value. With this
I can again use 2.7 Gbps link rate on g4x.

We only support resolution up to 4k for single pipe when using
YUV420 format so we prune these modes and restrict the plane size
at src. This is because pipe scaling will not support YUV420 scaling
for hwidth > 4096.

Reading DPCD registers has side-effects and some of these can cause a
problem for instance during link training. Based on this it's better to
avoid the probing quirk done before each DPCD register read, limiting
this to the monitor which requires it. The only known problematic
monitor is an external SST sink, so keep the quirk disabled always for
eDP and MST sinks. Reenable the quirk after a hotplug event and after
resuming from a power state without hotplug support, until the
subsequent EDID based detection.

This is a scripted split of the display related register macros from
i915_reg.h to display/intel_display_regs.h. As a starting point, move
all the macros that are only used in display code (or GVT). If there are
users in core i915 code or soc/, or no users anywhere, keep the macros
in i915_reg.h. This is done in groups of macros separated by blank
lines, moving the comments along with the groups.
Some manually picked macro groups are kept/moved regardless of the
heuristics above.
This is obviously a very crude approach. It's not perfect. But there are
4.2k lines in i915_reg.h, and its refactoring has ground to a halt. This
is the big hammer that splits the file to two, and enables further
cleanup.

Enable using a fractional (compressed) link bpp on MST links, if this is
supported and the link bpp is forced. Fractional link bpps will be
enabled by default as a follow-up change after testing this
functionality within a set of commonly used MST monitors and docks/hubs
which support it.

Add support for a fractional compressed link bpp on an MST link. Leave
the actual enabling of fractional bpps to a follow-up change.
While at it add an assert before the bpp loop, that the min and max bpps
are aligned to the bpp step. This should hold regardless of the non-DSC/DSC
or MST/UHBR-SST modes.
This keeps the mode validation and DSC->DPT BW specific maximum link
bpps as rounded-down integer values still, changing those to a
fractional value is left for later, add here TODO comments for them.

Adjusting the compressed bpp range min/max limits in
intel_dp_dsc_nearest_valid_bpp() is unnecessary:
- The source/sink min/max values are enforced already by the
link_config_limits::min_bpp_x16/max_bpp_x16 values computed early in
intel_dp_compute_config_link_bpp_limits().
- The fixed set of valid bpps are enforced already - for all bpps in the
min .. max range by intel_dp_dsc_valid_compressed_bpp() called from
intel_dp_mtp_tu_compute_config().
The only thing needed is limiting max compressed bpp below the
uncompressed pipe bpp, do that one thing only instead of calling
intel_dp_dsc_nearest_valid_bpp().

Atm TGL supports only a fixed set of valid DSC compressed bpps
(6,8,10,12,15), but this is not taken into account while looking for a
bpp in the minimum..maximum compressed bpp range.
This happened to work only by chance since atm from the above min..max
range it's always the maximum bpp that is selected, which is one of the
above valid bpps (see mst_stream_dsc_compute_link_config() ->
intel_dp_dsc_nearest_valid_bpp()). Before selecting a bpp however, the
bpp's BW requirement should be checked wrt. to the MST total link BW;
after doing that - in a follow-up change - the validity of any bpp in
the min..max range must be ensured before the bpp is selected, do that
here.

Atm, on an MST link in DSC mode
intel_dp_compute_config_link_bpp_limits() calculates the maximum link
bpp limit using the MST root connector's DSC capabilities. That's not
correct in general: the decompression could be performed by a branch
device downstream of the root branch device or the sink itself.
Fix the above by passing to intel_dp_compute_config_link_bpp_limits()
the actual connector being modeset, containing the correct DSC
capabilities.

Observe that i915->irq_lock is no longer used to protect anything
outside of display. Make it a display thing.
This allows us to remove the ugly #define irq_lock irq.lock hack from xe
compat header.
Note that this is slightly more subtle than it first looks. For i915,
there's no functional change here. The lock is moved. However, for xe,
we'll now have *two* locks, xe->irq.lock and display->irq.lock. These
should protect different things, though. Indeed, nesting in the past
would've lead to a deadlock because they were the same lock.
With the i915 references gone, we can make a handful more files
independent of i915_drv.h.

Minimum HBlank is programmed to address jitter for high resolutions with
high refresh rates that have small Hblank, specifically where Hblank is
smaller than one MTP.

Now that INTEL_PCH_TYPE() and HAS_PCH_*() macros are under display, and
accept a struct intel_display pointer, use that instead of struct
drm_i915_private pointer in display code.
This is done naively by running:
$ sed -i 's/\(INTEL_PCH_TYPE\|HAS_PCH_[A-Z0-9_-]*\)([^)]*)/\1(display)/g' \
$(find drivers/gpu/drm/i915/display -name "*.c")
and fixing the fallout, i.e. removing unused local i915 variables and
adding display variables where needed.
